Making a "Hydra" Penta-Bow - Extreme Penobscot Bow Build
Building a Penobscot style bow with the use of hand tools. I used black locust wood for this bow build. The bows is drawing 60lb at 26" (draw weight can be adjusted by twisting bow strings). To combine all the bows together I used flax twine and hide glue. What a beast of a bow it is!

Shooting a handcrafted Penobscot style bow. This stick was made by me over a year ago. I used black locust wood for this project. The "Kraken" draws 35-40lb at 26" and is a result of joining 4 separate bows. Love using it! #bowyer #archer #craftsman #outdoorsmen

Recurve Bow from Scratch - Making a Black Locust Bow Step by Step
I would absolutely love to know how a design like this affects the felt draw weight vs the actual firing force, because I've seen a fair few penobscot bows but virtually none laid out QUITE the same way as this. Would it be cheeky of me to ask if there's any way you could maybe like fire a few arrows through a chrono and then compare against a few other types of bows with a similar draw weight? Great build though, either way!
Looks good, works better?!🙃
Works great!
Asked this a couple times: Would it be possible to make a Penobscot bow with eccentric cams like for a compound bow?
Nice Molly
wooow perfect job!
Thank you for demonstrating on an imperfect stave
How about walnut? ??
All ducks are yours now
What kind of wood are you mainly using?
Hey 👋🏻 I live in an island in Greece , and the only trees I have access to are blackberry trees , pine trees, olive trees , willows and carob bean trees. I had made a bow that shot well with a carob tree but it broke, may could you tell me which one of these trees would make the best bow?
I understand the theory but I reckon the big wide limbs undo a lot of the work the long thin tips does for speed. Clearly no slouch though Beautiful
Isn't it a bit heavy? There's a lot of mass in all those arms. Wouldn't it be faster to just use one or maybe two arms? Nevertheless a really fine bow. Looks fantastic, great work!
Yes it is. Also a bit thick in the handle. Probably it would be, I built this one mainly for fun and as an experiment. Thank you a lot!
@@DreamcraftBows vary little motion in the limbs = fast bow... Vary much mass in the limbs = not so fast bow. You need to almost go clear down to laminate sheets for each limb to make this bow effective. That said, I wonder if breaking up the compressive force on so much surface area has any affect on the rate at which the wood takes string follow?
great project, what wood is this my friend?
Thank you! It's black locust wood.
Looks pretty cool 😎 glad it actually works 😊
Thanks! Yes, it does, but it's not very practical one.
can you make this one for me ?
I don't make this type of bows for sale.
160 fps is about 55 m/s at the "muzzle" what about at 30 meters (100 feet) and at twice that?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what a compound bow is for?
From the little reading I've done, this style of bow was a primitive workaround to using inferior wood in bow construction [pine, cottonwood], regions where maple or yew would be hard to come by
Brian 👍🏼
That is insane
Maybe a bit 👊
8:07 you’re welcome
👍🏼👍🏼
This is genuinely amazing!
Glad you think so!
Draw weight of bow and weight of arrows?
Bro unlocked the COD hit sound effect 😂
What kind of arrow speed are you getting with this bow? From the footage, it looks a little slow.
Cool, but How many layers of armor can it go through?
Good.
Thanks!
This is the bow that came from old Chosan to Jumong
nice
Thank you!
These multi limb bows look cool, but many folks wonder why. I've read the motivation for the Penobscot design and I was impressed by your report on your Hydra bow draw weight and length, but some folks say building a bow like that and having it perform well would be exceedingly difficult. I've looked at your videos of multilimbed bows, and indeed appears that you DON'T show how well the actually perform! Indeed on your Hydra bow you don't allow comments, which is why I'm leaving this comnent here. The proof is in the puddin' as my martial arts instructor used to say. Put up, or shut up.
Beautiful bow! 🟢🔴🏹
Appreciate it!
"TODAY'S QUEST: PULL THIS BOWSTRING!" 😂😂
Great work man. Bows are righteous
Thanks a lot!
Top limb is so much softer than lower limb
Two Species of Bamboo Moso & Madake-no knots !!!
Would love to try these!
Ist der selbst geschnitzt 🫵??
In einer Antwort auf meinen Kommentar unter einem seiner Community-Posts sagte er, dass er sie alle selbst herstellt. Er ist ein komplett autodidaktischer Handwerker.
I usually love your vids but just why. Penscot style is neat but that far is just going over baord
Cos
Esto es una "chorrada" de arcos que feo por Dios😮😢
Interesting and thanks. Noticed that there was no oiling of the wood. Wouldn't the wood dry out pretty quick?
Hiii need do same
Thank you🎉
Awesome bow 🏹❤😊
Appreciate it!
Bro you doesn't put the enkar 😅
Interesting.
So cool the most beautiful bow wood can make so legendary absolutely beautiful so glad someone like you finally made one with this much together usually it would just be 2-3 bows together❤❤❤
Glad you like it! It's so much fun 👊
definitely teaching my son this and target hitting skill 💪
👊👊
Este arco es una "chorrada"..,ni es arco ni es nada..
Pero..esto que es? un arco de arcos...o qu estéticamente es un bodrio...y no dudo q tenga más potencia...pero visualmente es horrible..😮
It sure has more power, as more wood gets under tension. And I like the aesthetics
Well, it is not the Classical Robin Hood LongBow, but if you have more of bows, this one is the most beautiful pulley bow!
